Who are we?
St Barnabas' Church is a local Anglican church serving Alwoodley. It is a
part of the Moor Allerton and Shadwell Team Ministry along with St John's, Moor Allerton,
St Stephen's, Moortown and St Paul's, Shadwell. The church building is a light and airy building and the
sense of welcome is matched by a warm welcome from the church family.
The church began before the war as a small body of worshippers, using the
current church hall as a meeting place. With growth in membership the
existing church building was built in 1963 to accommodate greater numbers.
this has allowed full use of the church hall as a Sunday School venue - to see
what groups meet in the hall, go to the Groups page.

Aims
St Barnabas’ Church Mission Statement is "for all to encourage people to come
to faith in Jesus Christ by deeds, words and example". We recognise the
importance for every person to come to know the living Lord Jesus as their
friend, Saviour and Lord and to respond to the invitation he gives to us to
continue the work he started in his life and ministry.

Church Life
Important features of life at St Barnabas' Church include worship, growing in
faith and sharing faith.
Worship is at the heart of life with God. We are invited to draw near to
Him and to seek His renewing life and power. We recognise the importance of
regular worship with others as well as a life which is one of worship 24 hours
a day, seven days a week.
Growing in faith comes through seeking to apply God's Word, the Bible, to
all areas of life. Expository preaching is a main feature of
church services,
as well as opportunities for people to explore their faith with others in mid
week home groups. We also have a regular opportunity to explore the basic
elements of the Christian faith in our "Christians for Life" course. This
course is an opportunity to think about what it means to be a Christian today.
Sharing faith is about sharing our life with God with others. This
means listening as well as speaking and being willing to be alongside other people
to serve them and to share life's sorrows and joys.
